Lily's Dreams Wool Diaper Cover Review

I received a free sample for review. All views are 100% my own.

Wool covers are used as an outer layer for some types of cloth diapers. Most commonly, a flat, prefold or fitted diaper is used on the inside for absorbency, while the wool shorties are used as the outermost waterproof layer. This makes a great night time solution for heavy wetters as well. Lily's Dreams makes some of the best wool covers, longies and shorties that I have seen.

Wool really does a fabulous job of stopping leaks. Many families prefer wool for heavy wetters or for night time diapers. The wool gets its absorbency from the lanolin. Which does require a little extra care during washing to maintain its unique breathable, waterproof properties. The wool also needs to be treated with lanolin to help it stop diaper leaks. Wool should only be hand washed and air dried flat. It WILL shrink or and be small enough to fit a newborn if you try to dry it in the dryer. Also do not use a clothes line. Just lay it flat. It does take over a day to dry after being washed. I think it usually takes up to 48 hours for us to dry.

If you do not own any wool, now is the time to add some to your stash. If you are like me, and love fitteds you need a good cover. That is where wool comes in. As long as it isn't soiled, you can reuse wool for weeks without washing! Crazy right? That has to be my favorite part.

I also love that the leg is a different contrasting color. It holds the legs very well too.

Wool can be expensive, so this definitely evens out that. You would only need 2 wool covers to get you through a day. Just air it out and your good to go. Let one dry while you use the other.

We do use flats, so wool covers are a must! I have come to really love fitted diapers as well. The stretch is great and they just don't compare to other diapers with PUL.

I love how these wool covers have a cute little design on the butt. I'm sure it can be used wither way of course.

There is also a sewn in soaker on the cover that gives it extra absorbancy.

Can you use a wool cover with disposable diapers?

  • Sure, why not? It's a cute add on for even moms that choose to use disposable diapers. Since Wool does not need to be washed after every use, it is the perfect fashion statement for everyday!
How many Wool covers do I need?
  • That depends on what is in your stash. You can get by with 1-2 wool covers in rotation easily. Since washing is super easy by hand. You would just need to use another cover while it dries. PUL covers are cheap and easy to find. You can even use fleece as a cover while your wool dries.

I'm already looking forward to the next Flats and Handwashing Challenge next year! Now that I know so much more about flats and diaper covers. Wool was my best friend during the challenge.

You can purchase many types of Wool Covers at Lily's Dreams, for a great price! Wool Covers like this one are around $19. Which is an excellent investment.

Dreaming In Cotton Cloth Diaper Review

Dreaming in Cotton Review

As part of So Sew Mama's, Mama Love event (June 12-24) I had the opportunity to review one of the adorable diapers made by Samantha. She was such a pleasure to work with. Dreaming in Cotton has quality products at great prices.

Samantha sent us the Argyle hearts pocket diaper to review.

Isn't it adorable? Could you believe that she is selling it for just $18.00?

Diaper Features:

  • Pocket diaper
  • One-size, fits 7-35 lbs.
  • hidden PUL
  • Stretchy Knit outer layer
  • Microfleece lining
  • Four rows of adjustment snaps to allow for a small/medium/large size in one diaper
  • Hip snaps to prevent the sides from drooping
  • Double back elastics to help prevent blow outs

Double rows of snaps for proper placement. I love diapers that have hip snaps. This is a huge deal for squirmy babies and toddlers.

This is also a very extendable diaper. It could fit babies over 35 lbs.

It is approximately 15.5 inches long, without being stretched at all. That is at the largest setting. (not stretched)

The Crotch area measured at 6.5 inches.

With a Wing span of 12 inches.

Our Microfleece lining. It is super soft. I love that she prewashes.

Double elastic pocket opening. It is a pretty wide pocket. I have no issue sticking my hand in. Also, you do not HAVE to take the dirty insert out by hand. It will agitate out in the wash. In most cases.

Close up of the four rise snap settings. I do not think I own any diapers with a four rise snap. I do believe that this makes it possible to fit bigger babies. I'm not sure if the crotch part would be wide enough. But I do not make big babies. Baby a is about 17 lbs and we are on the second setting. She is also about 26 inches tall.

Samantha's diapers do not come with inserts. But she does make them. Insert consists of 3 inner layers of microfiber and 2 outer layers of fleece. You can choose between a chocolate or light pink fleece outer.
Approximately 14.5" in length and 4.5" in width. I was able to use just this insert for nap time and it held up great. No leaks. Some of my other hidden PUL diapers leak, so this is awesome. I also love that the microfiber is under the fleece. This way I can use this insert with flats, or whatever else. What is more, they are only $3.00.
Baby a has started solids. She now eats everything and everything. Yeah, so fun. Not when it comes out the other end. We have had some really huge messy blow outs. I am so glad to say that potential blow outs did not happen with this diaper. The fit is superb! It definitely stood up to the ultimate test. 8 month old eating everything.

She is a cutie though.

If you are a cloth addict, like I am, you should definitely go purchase a diaper from Samantha. She also makes wipes and inserts!
